There are more then 600 D1 schools, but 200 D2 or NAIA colleges in the states. What this means is there is a scholarship out there for you if you want it. The best thing to do is to have your scholarship signed by your junior year in high school. So, how do you do this? First, start your freshman year to contact as many schools as possible, this would be after you decided what level you can play at. Always get advice from your team coach and another professional coach. Now make your profile as complete as you can with the help of your team. Sorry, your team should consist of your parents, high school coach and your club coach. I talked about this before in one of my blogs, rely on your team to guide you through this whole recruiting process. Back to finding a scholarship, after you have contacted the schools, narrow it down the top 5 schools as soon as possible. Do this by getting a feel of which coaches, are the most interested and your ability to fit in there system. This is were your communication skills, must be up to par. If you feel you are lacking in this area, work more on your skills. Bottom line, is coaches are looking for CHARACTER! They want players who are going to come in and work hard and have a great attitude. Let me leave you with this, start building up your character right now, and continue to build on it. This should make getting your scholarship very easy. the great thing about getting a scholarship is that you don't have to worry about being in debt after you leave school, which is what happens to most people after they graduate.Get Fit
